Break the Silence | 1,000 Paper Cranes
From April 27 to May 1, we will be making paper cranes to raise scholarship funds for local refugee children
Come find Fresh START, Cambodia Awareness Organization, Alpha Phi Omega, UNICEF, Anteaters in Action, the Olive Tree Initiative, Students for Global Peacebuilding, and Rotaract in the West Food Court lobby.
Help us make 1,000 paper cranes!
Beyond April 2015
The campaign for refugee awareness continues even after Refugee Week ends! Here are some organizations to join and ways you can help:
Tiyya: a non-profit that provides basic necessities & educational opportunities for refugees, immigrants, and displaced American families (Santa Ana, CA)
How to take action: tutor local refugee children at the Center for Living Peace, participate in the storytelling workshop as a 1st or 2nd generation immigrant, or play soccer on Saturdays with refugee kids. Join Fresh START ( students together aiding refugee youth) on your campus @ UC Irvine or Cal State Fullerton
Omid Institute: a non-profit that improves the quality of life for under-served and distressed families, particularly immigrant populations (Irvine, CA)
How to take action: help out in their Youth Enrichment, Early Childhood, Bridge, Courage to Heal, Forever Young, and New Beginnings programs
Access California: a non-profit that enriches the lives of the Arab-American and Muslim-American communities in Southern California (Anaheim, CA)
How to take action: apply for their volunteer program to participate in the many activities they offer that change the lives of their communities
